Pattie, you and Susie both discovered this link, so I'm not taking credit for it, and although I've put it up on Perlman Pages, I thought it might be a good idea to put it here too, because it does include a fair bit either with Ron or about Ron, and it's an interesting interview.

Great interview--you can really tell how important his family is to him.

It is a great interview! I knew which path Blake had chosen, but I had no idea Brandon was studying to be a chef. How cool is that? :)

Thanks for posting, ladies, they were both really great interviews.
I concur with what everyone else said. He has his values straight and I love his attitude toward life. I wish my kids had a father like his and like him. Someone to guide them. I'm not much of an example, too afraid of everything. Stephen's the same. He hates being an accountant, but once he chose that path he stuck to it.
Still, as far as I am from being a really good parent, I've done the best I knew how to. A lot of the kids at Krista's Halloween party came up to me and told me what a great mom they always thought I was (their various states of inebriation might have had something to do with that, however). I was touched regardless.

Ron's dad had it right. Let your kids loose on their passions, warn them that it may be a hard choice then let them go.

My brother & sister in law are wealthy farmers (you don't generally hear those two words together very often but in this case it's true). They are double digit millionaires. They have been pushing thier 20 year old son to get into the farming business and start stepping up and assuming responsibility etc. Their son no more wants to be a farmer than I do. He finally packed his bags and moved out on them last night because he can't take the pressure of "never living up to their expectations" because they aren't his passion. They now have no relationship with their son and don't even know where he is right now. I know they are heartbroken and truly felt that they were looking out for his best interest trying to get him into the family business. He truly would be set for life if he wanted it but at what cost? 30 or 40 years of doing something you hate (no matter how much money you make) is a REALLY long time.

When my husband & I were taking about this last night, I told him about that article regarding the "gift" Ron got from his dad and then in turn passed on to his children. What a better plan!

Hi Patti!

Ohhhh...I understand, why the young man left! If he feels forced to do something, and he would hate every second of it in the future, he made a CLEVER choice! A line from "BatB" just "popped up" in my head, "Only LIN knows, what's best for LIN!" Vincent says that to Father, in "China Moon". Our Mane Man is RIGHT!

Tis TRUE! Nobody can ever force you to do something, which is totally against your "nature". Every human being has a right to be happy and to make choices for his/her life. No-one should EVER be allowed to force something on(to) someone else!

Your family may make much money...but how can they even ASSUME, that their son wants to do the same thing(s) as THEY do???! They think, it's the best thing. But the best thing for whom?! For them and THEIR ambitions...but not for HIM! I admire his courage! I really do! :)

Ron has given his kids a great gift. I agree. Follow your dreams/desires. Fight for them! He is there to give Blake Amanda and Brandon Avery some advice if need be....and he is supportive. I actually thought, Brandon wanted to work with music, too...in college...but I may be mistaken?! But a chef (fine cooking) sounds very good, too!

Greetings from

Zimbio.com have 4 new photos of Ron attending the "Blue Velvet" screening at Grauman's Chinese Theatre during AFI FEST 2010 November 6. He's clean shaven in these, and he looks Fantastic! Here's the link:

Sorry folks, Zimbio obviously made a mistake in their printed text, the movie is "Blue Valentine," not "Blue Velvet!"
