Does Guillermo have plans to release any of his other films in special editions through the Criterion collection? I am really looking forward to Cronos and would love to see similar loaded discs for Mimic and Devil's Backbone.
Criterion has a licensing deal with Miramax, maybe the could fund the DC.

We haven't heard anything yet. GDT is still trying to get his Director's cut Mimic DVD made - it is currently on hold because of budget cuts at Mirimax.

I'm super excited about the Cronos release! But from what I've read on some Criterion message boards, there are more than a few film snobs with a bias against genre films, especially genre films by a director who has gotten as popular as GDT. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but it probably wouldn't hurt if GDT fans posted how grateful they are for Cronos on Criterion's The Auteurs forum.

Any updates on the new Cronos release? Is it still coming out this year? Nothing going on about it at the Criterion site.

CRONOS is evolving nicely. We are including a NEVER-SEEN-BEFORE version of GEOMETRIA (1987) the short that I made for 1 thousand bucks and that I was never able to finish the way I wanted it. NOW I re-finsihed it for this disc (dont worry, no CGI or fancy stuff) and I like it- I never did before- but now I do.
CRONOS has never looked so beautiful and we found dozens of photographs of the making of the device, etc
MIMIC is looking fabulous. Some of the negative had been lost but we found alternatives and are finishing the Director's Cut. VERY HAPPY!!
I wouldnt urge anyone to engage in any forum discussions- it is not needed and quite irksome- to no avail, frankly. You will never convert anyone to the films of someone they "don't get" or despise.
I'm OK with it.
Love
GDT

Great news on the Cronos DVD. And even better news on the Mimic Director's Cut DVD. Mimic has to this day been the only film I haven't watched and I'm excited to see it and to see your original vision of it (though, I'll have to watch the theatrical cut since I always do before I see the director's cut of a movie). Plus I was a little worried about the status of the movie since it had been put on hold and stuff and am glad to see that it's on track again. Can't wait to see both of them released.

Hey Guillermo!
Thanks for the update! I know a lot of people were wondering why it hasn't been solicited for sale yet.
I'm a little confused. Is Criterion doing Mimic as well as Cronos or are these seperate projects your referring to? It will be interesting to see a director's cut of Mimic either way. Will be nice to see if it's an improvement over the Miramax theatrical cut.

When I first read the news I thought that it meant both films were coming from Criterion. Anyway, I hope Mimic is getting the Blu-ray treatment no matter who is doing it. Great news!

Nice to hear this is still coming along. Criterion dropped a little teaser a few months back that suggested a fall release, but that appears to not be the case. Cronos isn't available in the US on DVD, so this is a pretty nice way to bring it back.
The Auteurs is not Criterion -- it's a partnership. If the people at Criterion didn't like Cronos, they wouldn't be putting it out.
Does anyone know what Geometria about? (Nevermind...I just watched it on youtube)
