FRANK DARABONT

Frank Darabont contributed the short story The Brotherhood of the Gun to the Dark Horse Books Odder Jobs collection.

Biography
Three-time Oscar nominee Frank Darabont was born in a refugee camp in France in 1959, the son of Hungarian parents who had fled Budapest during the failed 1956 Hungarian uprising. Brought to America as an infant, he settled with his family in Los Angeles and attended Hollywood High School. His first job in the movies was as a production assistant on the 1981 film, Hell Night, starring Linda Blair. He spent the next six years working in low-budget films in the "art department" (building and dressing sets) while struggling to establish himself as a writer. His first produced writing credit (shared) was on 1987's Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, directed by co-writer and friend Chuck Russel.

Darabont is one of only six filmmakers in history with the unique distinction of having his first two feature films received nominations for the Best Picture Academy Award: 1994's The Shawshank Redemption (with a total of seven nominations) and 1999's The Green Mile (four nominations). His most recent feature as a director, The Majestic, starring Jim Carrey, was released in December 2001. The next film he hopes to direct is his adaptation of Ray Bradbury's classic science-fiction novel Fahrenheit 451. Also intended for future production are film adaptations of Robert McCammon's intense female-driven thriller Mine, and Stephen King's The Mist.

Frank still lives in Los Angeles and is a big damn Hellboy fan. A collector and lover of original art, his house is filled with pieces by such awesome artists as Bernie Wrightson, Drew Struzan, Sanjulian...and, of course, Mike Mignola.
